WashU Club Gymnastics

Our Program
WashU Club Gymnastics seeks to build strong bodies, strong minds, and strong community by offering recreational and competitive gymnastics options to WashU students and alums. All practices are held at the St. Louis Gymnastics Centre (SLGC) in Webster Groves, which is a 21,000 sq. ft. training center fully equipped for all men's and women's events. We welcome gymnasts of all levels, and offer both recreational and competitive tracks. No experience is required and our practices are designed to accommodate a wide range of skill levels, so whether you're not quite sure how to balance in that handstand or are looking to perfect your double Arabian, we've got you covered! |

Practices
All members are welcome to attend our practices no matter how much experience you have! The recreational team and competition team practice together, socializing and interacting all the while.
Practices are held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:30-10:30pm and Saturdays from 4:00-6:00pm. Everyone will meet at the South 40 Clocktower to carpool to the gym center 30 minutes before practice starts as the drive to SLGC is around 20 minutes. Therefore, practices are 8:00-11:00pm Tuesday/Thursday and 3:30-6:30pm Saturday accounting for the travel time.
Once practice starts, we will all warm-up together through a structured warm-up led by the president which includes jogging, stretching and a walk-through of basic gymnastics skills. The rest of practice is devoted to open gym where members have access to all gym equipment and can receive coaching or spotting from our coaches or a set of structured assignments based on skill level. Our members have freedom to choose and do as they wish and have fun!
Practice is $5 per session or $50 for the semester. It's free if you have a car that can be used for carpooling!

Competitive Program
Meets: We compete against other college club teams through the National Association of Intercollegiate Gymnastics Clubs (NAIGC). We attend 3-4 regional meets throughout the spring semester and finish the season with nationals in April. Gymnasts are free to decide which events they would like to train and compete and are not confined to the typical events of their gender. Because we are traveling with each other almost biweekly in the Spring, our members grow a strong sense of community and friendship through competitions and bonding events.
|
The competition program is here for those who would like a bit more structure to practices, more dedication to the team, and to compete in meets throughout the nation. The competition team kicks in Spring semester when competition season starts. This team is very laidback as everyone is here to have fun while challenging themselves. Our skill levels range from beginner of beginners to nearly Olympic level.
Practice Schedule: Competitive team members are required to have a rolling attendance of 1.5 practices per week. Unlike the recreational team, competitive practices are more focused on developing new skills, preparing routines, and improving strength, flexibility, and endurance. Dues: Competitive dues are $50/semester. This covers practice, uniform, and travel expenses. Other than food during competition weekends, members will generally not be asked to pay any additional expenses. Finding Your Balance: Our athletes are known for being dedicated gymnasts, but we know that your passions extend beyond the gym door. We understand that your upcoming calc test, philanthropy event, and work study job are all on your mind and on your schedule. When it comes to meets, your goals are our goals. The only pressure you'll feel will be that of which you put on yourself. WORK HARD PLAY HARD! |

Driver Discount: Drivers who drive at least one WashU undergraduate from the clocktower to practice are exempt from all dues
PLEASE NOTE: We understand that our athletes come from a variety of financial backgrounds and don't all enjoy equal ability to pay. Our guiding value is accessibility. Dues should never be what keeps a member from participating in the organization as fully as they would like. If you are unsure of your ability to pay the dues as represented above, please reach out to the team president as soon as possible to arrange payment process that meets your needs as well as the organization's.
Attendance
RecreationalRecreational members are not required to commit to a certain level of attendance, but the more involved you are, the closer our team is!
|
CompetitiveCompetitive members are expected to prioritize team activities and be as present as possible at practices, meets, and other team events. Consistent attendance is necessary in creating a supportive team and is highly encouraged as a competitive member. Members are expected to attend at least one traveling regional meet before Nationals.
